Birth trauma resolution .....

I’m currently undertaking NLP Coaching Practitioner training. Part of my training involved learning how to use the 3 Step Rewind technique with people who have experienced birth trauma. It’s absolutely amazing!

In just three weeks, occasionally four, parents who had experienced birth trauma and found it difficult to remember their baby’s births without pain, anger, resentment and fear found positive memories, even funny memories that were also part of their births.

They still retain the memory of their births but no longer think of it as fearful, upsetting or are angry about how the birth happened. They can see that there were reasons as to why things happened during their labour and birth. In many cases, a lot of the upset and anger was caused by the medical team failing to see each person as an individual human being with feelings and emotions. After undergoing the 3 Step Rewind Technique, they now look upon the event(s) completely differently.

One mum is now pregnant with her second baby, another is looking forward to becoming pregnant again and another mum is no longer upset by the events and can see them for what they were.

So what is the 3 Step Rewind Technique?

It is not therapy or counselling. It is an NLP technique and was developed out of the Fast Phobia treatment. It is often used to treat people with PTSD. Only around 5% of parents are considered to have PTSD after an uncomfortable birth but, to the parents, what happened to them has been traumatic.

The first session involves a listening session in a safe space where parents can tell their story if they want to. They don’t have to as, if it is too traumatic for them, then the last thing they need is to go over everything again. As long as the parent can identify a strong feeling towards the event/experience then this can be worked through using the 3 Step Rewind Technique.

The Birth Awareness 3 Step Rewind  involves three stages:

  • Deep Relaxation

  • Recalling the event in a specific way whilst feeling safe and secure

  • Imagining coping in the future and responding differently

This technique is a very effective and well tested technique that neutralises the disturbing feelings associated with the trauma you have experienced. The memory of what happened still exists, but it no longer provokes anxiety, panic, guilt, anger or sadness allowing you to move forward with your life.

Lastly, the sessions can help restore feelings of calm and confidence to someone who has been plagued with the anxiety associated with trauma.

Having worked with many parents during my training, I am absolutely awed by how well this technique works. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you’d like to know more.
