Baby Massage

What is baby massage?

Infant/baby massage is a lovely way to help bond with your baby and enjoy time with them. Touch is a very early form of communication and learning baby massage techniques will help you to understand your baby’s communication cues as well as providing them with a strong start in life both physically and emotionally. Baby massage also helps parents postnatally to connect and learn about their baby. Postnatal support is very important in the first year of parenting.

Using a high quality, non-fragranced vegetable oil, soothing holds and rhythmic strokes are given on each area of baby's body, following a sequence which has been developed by the IAIM over many years. The massage offers a wonderful experience and a special time to communicate both verbally and non-verbally with babies, so that they feel loved, valued and respected.

Four of the main areas of benefit include:

  • Interaction and bonding

  • Relaxation

  • Relief

  • Stimulation

My baby massage classes offer a wonderful opportunity to experience how to communicate with your baby through nurturing touch and massage strokes. You will be shown how to adapt the strokes for your baby's individual needs and your growing child. The emphasis and focus is on sensitive and enjoyable interaction between the parent/carer and the baby, so that you gain a deeper understanding of your baby’s behaviour, unique language and cues.
